Installing WordPress Theme from Dashboard

The easiest and most common way to install a WordPress theme is through Dashboard. In Appearance, click on Themes, and you will see a list of already installed themes. You will see a button to Add New Theme. Click it, and you will be presented with a screen where you can search, preview, and install themes of your choice.

Upload A Theme Through Dashboard

There are many instances where your required theme is not available through the first method described above. In this case, you need to save the theme on your local hard drive and then upload it to WordPress. Again, go to the WordPress dashboard and click on Add New Theme. On the Add Theme page, there is another tab named Upload Theme. Click it and you will be presented with another screen with an option to upload theme. Click on Choose File and then click Install Now to proceed.

Upload a Theme Via FTP

What if your installed theme breaks down? If this happens, you will not be able to access WordPress Dashboard at all; and hence, you will lose the ability to change the theme. In this case, use an FTP client like FileZilla or cPanel file manager. Navigate to the WordPress directory, wp-content, and then to the themes folder. Copy your theme to this folder to install WordPress theme.
Tip: if your theme is broken, rename the broken theme and WordPress will switch to the default theme.
